lyrics
Late in the evening
When I get tired of dreaming
I wake up again
And I roll up my sweet leaf and wonder
How you pulled me back in
Should’ve known by the distance
And the growing persistence
Of no loving after ten
That you’d found a new lover
A real kiss and hugger
Someone new for you to break and to bend
No surprise, you’re sitting pretty
No surprise, I’m back here again
No surprise, I’d love you blindly
But we know blind love is a breaker of men
And now that I know what kind of deceit
Hides behind baby blue eyes
I have shaken my head
Gotten back up again, no surprise
I hear he’s tall dark and handsome
A real handful of man with some quiet kind eyes
And he’s probably blind to your black widow mind
All the secrets and lies
I hope when you make love
You remember to take off
My photo from next to the bed
And good luck to you in all that you do
Hope you don’t choke while getting ahead
No surprise, you’re sitting pretty
No surprise, I’m back here again
No surprise, I’d love you blindly
We know love is a breaker of men
And now that I know what kind of deceit
Hides behind baby blue eyes
I have shaken my head
Gotten back up again, no surprise
I hope you’ll remember
My loving so tender
When your world is wearing thin
And honey, don’t be surprised
Yeah, don’t be surprised
Don’t be surprised when the secrets come and pull you back in
No surprise, you’re sitting pretty
No surprise, I’m back here again
No surprise, I would love you blindly
Now we know love is a breaker of men
And now that I know what kind of deceit
Hides behind your baby blue eyes
I’ll have shaken my head
Gotten back up again, no surprise
I’ll have shaken my head
Gotten back up again, no surprise

Unapologetically genuine, wry, and soft-hearted - Mariel Buckley has planted her flag firmly as a songwriter who’s in it for
the long haul. She aims to find herself squarely on the fringes and exactly where she belongs: singing and writing songs for the underdog....more
Irresistible classic country music abounds on “Listening To The Music,” full of lap steel, walking bass, and heartwarming melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 5, 2020
The latest from Jim Lauderdale is exclusive to Bandcamp, its songs drawing on bluegrass, country, and classic American music. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 28, 2020
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
